Class Dojo is a point system at your fingertips. It can be easily displayed in a classroom, to allow students to see their avatar, as well as display positive or negative points. Allotting points allows for endless interactive incentive systems. With a sleek and simplified display, the functions of the site can really shine and be easily implemented It is a simple website with a simple design in mind, but it is designed to be flexible enough to do a lot for classroom management!
If ClassDojo cannot be displayed for the class, there are other ways of getting it to work for you. While it may lose some of its intended effects, using it as a point-tracker on a smartphone or a computer will still do the job of pinpointing one student, and giving them a +1 or -1, along with default options (and ones you can create yourself) for each. The best part? It is very easy to share this content with parents, on a daily/weekly/whatever-you-want basis!
Reading around the "stories" page, you will find many examples of incentive systems used by other teachers. The one I would lean toward is awarding a group with the most points something (candy, extra point, free seating arrangement, etc) at the end of the week. There are lots of tips on that page!
In my class: I tried this as an incentive system for what was possibly an insubstantial amount of time. It did not work for my needs, but I would be willing to try it again. I needed something in which I could multi-manage a large number of students and be able to write and enter notes on behavior, rather than pick from a set. ClassDojo could have great potential in the classroom where behavioral issues are not a persistent issue, where the teacher can quickly assess a student (positively or negatively) through a couple of clicks. To use ClassDojo to get the most out of it and remain consistent, I would suggest using it for a full cycle during each class - meaning, award each student once.
In the works:
On the Class Dojo boards educators are sending in requests for improving the service such as: include partner/group picker, adding comments, student access between all classes, device syncing, avatar animations, etc.
