Discussion: Digital timelines or traditional paper timelines?
Dipity is for creating interactive timelines (pictures, videos, links, etc!) in a visually engaging format.
A timeline is a method of exploring topics and events that are, more or less, displayed in a linear way. Traditionally, when a timeline is assigned as a classroom activity, it is expected that this will involve a gathering and use of paper materials, scissors, markers, glue, and magazines, not to mention - the high probability of the classroom ending up a mess. Dipity provides an alternative to that, and it covers the technology component that is integrated throughout most state standards (like the CCSS). The web integration of this app contains a much better function of resource-gathering and quality (photos, videos, texts, links to other pages) than sifting through any magazine. Dipity can be created and edited individually or by groups, and displayed and embedded in class blogs or just about anywhere else, creating a valuable audience of peers, parents, teachers, and others.
In recent news, the teacher strike in Chicago has been something that gained a lot of attention. The Catalyst Chicago journal has published a Dipity timeline showing the process and negotiations that took place before, during, and after the strike. Take a look!
